Dermal Fillers
Juvéderm is an injectable facial filler derived from hyaluronic acid, like Restylane and Perlane. Allergan, the manufacturer of Juvéderm, describes it as a "next generation" filler, and it has two significant differences from other hyaluronic acid fillers. Juvéderm is produced with more cross-linking between the hyaluronic acid molecules, which may make them more resistant to absorption by the body, and it is produced with a smoother texture than other hyaluronic acid fillers.
Although individual results may vary, during Juvéderm clinical trials some subjects received correction of nasolabial folds of up to one year. One definite advantage of Juvéderm is that its smooth texture can lead to less irritation following treatment. Whereas most patients receiving Restylane experience swelling and redness for up to three days, swelling and redness following Juvéderm injections is much less and of shorter duration.
What Is Juvéderm Used to Treat
Like other facial fillers, Juvéderm is used to treat nasolabial folds and other skin folds and wrinkles due to a loss of facial volume or skin tone. Like Restylane and Perlane, it can be a complementary treatment to Botox injections.
