Acne
Acne is the term for plugged pores (blackheads and whiteheads), pimples, and even deeper lumps (cysts or nodules) that occur on the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders and the upper arms. Acne affects most teenagers to some extent. However, the disease is not restricted to any age group; adults in their 20s - even into their 40s - can get acne. While not a life threatening condition, acne can be upsetting and disfiguring. When severe, acne can lead to serious and permanent scarring. Even less severe cases can lead to scarring. To avoid acne scarring, treating acne early is important.

Smoothbeam Treatment for Acne
Smoothbeam laser for acne treatment:
Smoothbeam acne laser therapy is an effective way to treat your acne. This gentle, safe treatment uses a laser to target overactive sebaceous glands in your skin - the root cause of acne. Medical lasers such as Smoothbeam are safe and have been used for over 20 years to treat many medical conditions.
The Smoothbeam works by targeting acne's root cause, the overactive function of the sebaceous gland. The 1450nm wavelength of laser light emitted by the Smoothbeam is highly absorbed in water, which is the dominant chromophore or target in the sebaceous gland.

The laser light penetrates to a depth in the skin where the sebaceous glands are found and causes enough injury to stop the over production of sebum, thereby eliminating the acne. The outer skin is protected by a cooling spray and is not damaged during the treatment. This means there is no down time for the patient. Side effects are quite minimal and may include slight and temporary redness or swelling lasting a few hours to a few days or, in rare cases, a temporary pigmentation change.
The Smoothbeam can also be used to treat deep acne scars. Because collagen is at the same depth in skin as sebaceous glands, and is comprised of mostly water, it is also a target of the Smoothbeam. The slight dermal injury caused by the laser light stimulates the production and deposition of newly organized collagen beneath the skin resulting in significant improvement in the appearance of these scars.
Most patients can continue the use of their current acne treatments and skin regimens while undergoing treatment with Smoothbeam.
